15th Annual Chafee Conservation Awards, May 8th

Join Us to Celebrate a Legacy of Conservation in Rhode Island

Thursday, May 8, 2014
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Downtown Providence Marriott

Honoring the memory of the late Senator John H. Chafee and his dedication to protecting and preserving the natural environment, the ECRI Education Fund honors four RI organizations each year for their efforts toward improving the health of the Rhode Island environment.

The awards highlight the outstanding efforts of Rhode Island groups to promote community sustainability through conservation of our natural resources. The programs and projects recognized may become a model for other communities, and in doing so, provide significant benefits to the citizenry, community, ecological system and natural resources of Rhode Island.

For 37 years, Senator John H. Chafee led the way to save the natural world around us and it is fitting that your award bears his name. He lived by the words of that most famous conservationist, Theodore Roosevelt, whom he often quoted:

"Of all the great questions which can come before this nation, short of the actual preservation of its existence in a great war, there is none which compares in importance with the central task of leaving this land a better land for our descendants than it is for us."

This 15th celebration of the Chafee Awards focuses on renewable energy developments in Rhode Island where we are on the cutting edge of the wind power revolution. Thanks to advanced ocean use planning and private investment we will have the first off shore wind farm on this side of the Atlantic. Our list of exhibitors and sponsors includes organizations from the renewable energy sector, such as Rhode Island based Deepwater Wind. We will also learn about the advanced planning techniques pioneered by URI that guided this development. Get your questions answered!

A light buffet and cash bar will be available. More than 125 environmental and community leaders from Rhode Island are expected to attend.
